At the end of September we had the great privilege of being part of the yearly Best of Britannia event in Bloomsbury square London. BOB is an exhibition set up purely to champion British brands and British industries, the event had a real mix of traditional heritage and classic British style as well as a modern edge- cool venue, new brands and a fantastic atmosphere.
It’s been a while since there’s been an exciting menswear exhibition on in one of London’s galleries, but The Photographers Gallery has come up trumps with its photography exhibition entitled ‘Made you look; Dandyism & Black Masculinity’, described as “A group exhibition exploring the identity of the black dandy as performed in studio and street photographers from London to New York to Bamako”.
The idea to set up a small British menswear brand began a long time ago when Dancys “creative director” (we like to use these big names!) was studying menswear design at university. There was much less colour on the menswear scene then so it didn’t take much for the brand leading the way with colour to make an impact.
From the beginning we knew we wanted to keep an authentic Britishness to both our design and manufacture. Not only because our ties, bow ties and pocket squares are traditionally associated with gentlemen and being dapper and is therefore very ‘British’, but also because we felt it was important as a new company to support British industries and that it was something our customer would value and appreciate (as we do!).
